The first aircraft to depart (05) performed a circuit & wing wave along runway 22 before proceeding en route. The final one away (10) also did a circuit and high speed pass after its departure.

A bumper day for BAL - Vive La France!

The five PC-21s arrived from Boscombe Down for an overnight stop.

The Casa was originally inbound to Dublin (from Evreux) but diverted in after more than an hour holding over BAL @ FL160. It seems it was unable to carry out an RNAV approach to runway 10L and was advised by ATC that it would be 1300L at the earliest before runway 10R would become available for landings.

Alas, the gusty crosswinds prevented the BoBMF Lancaster from performing at Bray. Bad weather also led to the cancellation of the Red Arrows display. A six-ship formation taxied out for departure off runway 28 just as a heavy rain shower swept across the field. Red Leader advised ATC that they could not display at Bray in such conditions and they returned to the apron. The seventh aircraft had started up but subsequently shut down its engine with a tech issue.

Five of the Red Arrows departed home to RAF Scampton @ 1935L and I believe the other two will follow in the coming days.

About Baldonnel

Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel (ICAO : EIME) is a military airport located 16km south west of Dublin City.

The airfield dates back to 1917 when it was established as a base by the Royal Flying Corps (RFC). Following the war of independence it was taken on charge by the Irish Air Corps and is their home base to this day.

It also served as Dublin's original airport and Aer Lingus operated their first ever commercial service in May 1936 from there to Bristol using a DH.84 Dragon.

This log is compiled from my own observations and is an effort to provide an historic record of aircraft movements at Baldonnel and, bearing in mind the security nature of military operations, movement details will only be posted after the fact.
